What fees might I have to pay?
Residential Aged Care
There is a range of potential fees that you may be subject to when registering for an aged care home. These include things like the basic daily fee, the means-tested care fee and additional fees.

Care and Accommodation Costs
Accommodation Costs
All aged care providers charge fees for your accommodation to cover the home's maintenance costs and amenities, each residential aged care home sets this accommodation price.
Many factors influence aged care accommodation costs, including facilities available and property prices. It’s important to complete the Income and Means Assessment before you go into care as this will determine whether the Australian Government will subsidise this fee or fully pay for your accommodation costs based on your income earnings and assets.

Currently the accommodation costs at Woorayl Lodge Inc is $450,000. For residents entering care after the 1st January 2025, the cost will be $475,000.
For flexibility, there are four ways you can pay for your accommodation:
Option 1 - Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD) This option is a lump sum accommodation payment. The full amount of the deposit is refunded when you leave Woorayl Lodge less any amounts you have agreed to deduct.

Option 2 - Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP) Instead of paying for your accommodation as a lump sum, you can choose to pay a daily fee. The amount you pay is calculated based on the MPIR (maximum permissible interest rate, set by the Australian Government) current on the day you move into permanent care.
Option 3 - Combination Payment Part refundable accommodation deposit (RAD) and part daily accommodation payment (DAP), with the part RAD being refunded when you leave Woorayl Lodge.
Option 4 - Drawdown Payment This option is like the combination payment, but the daily accommodation payment (DAP) component is deducted from your refundable accommodation deposit (RAD). The balance of the deposit is refunded when you leave Woorayl Lodge.
Basic Daily Fee
The Basic Daily Fee is currently $63.57 per day which is set by the Australian Government and equates to 85% of the single basic Age Pension. The Australian Government reviews the fee amount on 20 March and 20 September each year, in line with Age Pension changes. Everyone receiving care in residential aged care is required to pay this fee unless they are experiencing financial hardship, as determined by Services Australia. My Aged Care has a fee estimator which will help you estimate the likely cost of care - visit https://www.myagedcare.gov.au/how-much-will-i-pay.
Means Tested Care Fee
Once you submit an Income and Means Assessment through Centrelink, you will not only be assessed on whether you are eligible for any subsidies but you’ll also be assessed on whether the means-tested care fee is applicable. If you have to pay the income-tested care fee, it means the government has determined you need to pay extra towards your day-to-day care, but only if you can afford it. Whether this fee applies to you is dependent on your financial situation and if you have a higher level of assets or income. The means-tested care fee will be between $0 and $259.26 per day. It can take the government some time to calculate the amount you may need to pay for the means-tested care fee. Therefore, you and Woorayl Lodge will be notified by letter when the price has been calculated, and payment will be backdated to the date you entered into care.
Additional Fees
Additional fees are for services that go beyond the minimum care and service requirements for such things as an in room private phone, haircuts, labelling of laundry and tag and testing of personal electrical devices.
Is there Government support for aged care?
The government provides a few aged care subsidy programs to assist residents who struggle to afford aged care support. The main program you can apply for is Financial Hardship Assistance. If you are eligible, the Australian Government will assist in paying some or all of your aged care fees (this includes respite care). Visit https://www.myagedcare.gov.au/financial-hardship-assistance
